How to take photos that sell your listing

Light, angle and a tidy frame matter more than an expensive camera. A step by step guide.

Why photos decide everything

Buyers see the picture first and read the text second. A weak photo means the description is never reached. The good news: you do not need an expensive camera, you need light and a little order.

Light beats the camera

Shoot in daylight near a window. Avoid direct sun and yellow lamps that distort colour. Soft, diffused light shows the item as it really is.

  • The best time is morning or midday
  • Keep the window to the left or right of the item
  • No direct flash

Seven shots worth taking

  1. The whole item
  2. A close up of the texture or material
  3. An important detail or brand
  4. Honest signs of wear
  5. What is included in the box
  6. Scale next to a familiar object
  7. The item in use

Keep the frame tidy

Remove everything extra. A neutral background — wall, table, floor — looks more expensive and builds trust.

Do not use other peoples photos and do not overload the frame with filters. Buyers want to see the real item, not a catalog picture.

Take five to seven honest shots in daylight and your listing will stand out at once.
